Ear
cropping started many years ago on guard or working
dogs such as dobermans, boxers, and bouviers so that
the ears could not be grabbed or injured. The Great
Dane was originally bred to hunt wild boar. Their ears
were cropped so they were not torn in fights with cornered
boars.
The
pit bulls were bred to fight other dogs and their ears
were cropped so it was harder to bite. As time passed,
the purpose of their lives have changed and the short
crops has changed to todays elegant style to contour
to I have 400-500 crops a year for the last 20 years
and have gained a reputation among show dog breeders
for my cropping.
This
specialty all started because my wife raised great danes
and she was not going to be married to a vet and pay
some one else to crop her dogs. What a way to start!
Now I have clients come to my clinic from as far away
as New Mexico, Texas, Nebraska, Missouri, and North
Carolina. I have also been flown into Florida to do
an entire litter.
